Cottages and Bungalows Magazine Feature: A Dream Come True

I’m so excited to share the news of Eleanor Rose Home’s Cottages and Bungalows magazine feature! Celebrate this dream come true with me.

There are moments in life that feel almost too good to be true sometimes, and today, I’m thrilled to share one of those moments with you.

As I sit down to write this, I can hardly believe that Eleanor Rose Home has been featured in the 2024 October/November issue of Cottages & Bungalows magazine.

It’s a surreal, dream come true.

So, in this blog post, I thought I’d take you on a little Eleanor Rose Home journey and share how grateful I am to you for helping me get to where we are today, in a nationally publicized magazine!

Where Eleanor Rose Home Started

When I started this Eleanor Rose Home journey, I had no idea where it was going to take me but I knew I wanted to share my love for creating warm, inviting spaces that feel like home with others.

Originally, one of the hardest decisions of creating a home & lifestyle blog was deciding on a name.

I had no idea that would prove to be so difficult!

After going back and forth for weeks on a name, it finally came to me.

Why not name the blog after the source of love, comfort, and coziness in our home, our Yorkshire terrier/dachshund mix rescue Eleanor Roosevelt?

Eleanor has always been the heart of our home, bringing joy and a sense of warmth that perfectly embodies what I wanted this blog to represent.

Naming the blog after her felt like the perfect way to capture the essence of what I wanted to share with each of you; a love for creating spaces that are not just beautiful, but also filled with comfort and belonging.

Now, years later, our precious Eleanor Roosevelt is featured in the pages of Cottages and Bungalows magazine!

It’s truly a full circle moment and a milestone that feels all the more special because it’s rooted in something so personal and dear to our family’s heart.

How did this Cottages & Bungalows magazine feature come to be?

You might be wondering how this incredible opportunity to be featured in Cottages & Bungalows Magazine came about.

Well every year, Cottages & Bungalows searches for a Brand Ambassador to represent their magazine on social media, a coveted position that allows one lucky person to showcase their love for stylish living.

In 2023, I decided to apply, letting my passion for home decor and the desire to connect with a wider audience who share the same love for creating beautiful spaces take over instead of my fear.

After submitting my application, I was thrilled to learn that I had been selected as one of three finalists.

It was truly an honor to be recognized among so many talented creators.

The next step was a public vote, which in the end, I ended up being just three votes short of winning the ambassadorship.

While losing by such a narrow margin was disappointing, something wonderful came out of that experience.

I had the honor of connecting with Kelly McMaster, the editor of Cottages & Bungalows, who saw something in my style that resonated with the magazine’s vision.

Last year, Kelly reached out to me with an exciting proposal: Would I like to have our home featured in a 2024 issue of the magazine? And if so, which season would I choose?

Without hesitation, I said YES!

The idea of seeing Eleanor Rose Home in print was something I had only dreamed of, and the opportunity to share our home in a magazine I admire was beyond anything I could have imagined.

When it came time to choose the season, I immediately thought of fall.

There’s something magical about autumn. The crisp air, the golden leaves, and the way it transforms our homes into cozy sanctuaries…my absolute favorite.

Behind the Scenes of the Fall Feature in Cottages and Bungalows Magazine

Normally when your home is featured in a magazine, the magazine will send a professional photographer to photograph your home (sometimes they’ll also send a stylist).

In our case, Cottages & Bungalows could not find a photographer in our area (which did not surprise me) so we agreed that I would take the pictures myself, and C&B would purchase them for a small fee.

This was a unique opportunity for me to showcase our home exactly as I see it through my own lens, capturing the warmth and details that I think make it special.

It also allowed me to have full creative control over how the spaces were styled, making sure that every shot reflected the cozy, inviting atmosphere that I strive to create.

Kelly (the Cottages & Bungalows editor) and I emailed back and forth about the photos I submitted. In some cases they wanted a wider shot of a room and in others a more close up picture.

In the end, I loved the photos they included in the magazine!

I also submitted my crockpot apple butter recipe and tips on how to host a potluck party, which were both included in the fall magazine feature as well.

Seeing Eleanor Rose Home in Print

When I first saw our feature in the pages of Cottages & Bungalows, I have to admit that I became a little teary eyed and I felt such an overwhelming sense of gratitude.

It’s a strange and wonderful feeling to see your name and your work recognized in such a beautiful way especially on the shelves of my favorite bookstore, Barnes & Noble’s!

This magazine has always been a source of inspiration for me, and so to be included within its pages, is something I’ll cherish forever.

The Cottages and Bungalows magazine fall feature is a dream come true, but it’s not something I could have achieved on my own.

It’s something that belongs to the entire Eleanor Rose Home community because without your support, encouragement, and love for ERH, this moment wouldn’t be possible.

I am forever grateful to each and every one of you who has followed along, shared your thoughts, and made this community what it is today.

This isn’t just my accomplishment, it’s ours.
