Welp.

I held out for as long as I could, but after a week of cloudy weather and noticably shorter days, I needed something to brighten the house.

And so last weekend (November 1st to be exact), the Christmas decorations came out.

Not all of them.

I still have a long way to go however, the Christmas tree is up and that alone has made such a difference.

The house feels warmer, the evenings feel cozier, and the gloomy weather doesn’t seem quite so bad.

Isn’t it amazing how a simple thing like a tree filled with twinkling lights can completely change the mood of a space?

So, if you think it’s too early start your holiday decorating…it’s not!

The way I see it, the holidays are short enough as it is.

Why not stretch out the festive moments for as long as possible.

If you’re craving warmth and coziness, then now is the perfect time to start Christmas decorating.

Weekly Wednesday Wish List #229 Eleanor Rose Home Kitchen With a Counter Stool

1. STRESS-FREE HOLIDAY DECORATING: Grab my 9 simple tips on how to plan, prioritize, and enjoy a cozy holiday home without feeling overwhelmed.

2. COZY TIP OF THE WEEK: Don’t worry about keeping up with themes or trends when it comes to Christmas decorating. Mix heirloom ornaments with new finds, blend colors and styles, and decorate in a way that feels like you.

3. LITTLE THINGS I’M LOVING:

4. FROM MY KITCHEN TO YOURS: As we head into the holiday season, I don’t think there’s anything better than spending a chilly November or December afternoon baking easy Christmas treats that fill the house with delicious scents. I’ve rounded up some of my family’s favorites that are simple to make and great for gifting or sharing.

5. INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW: What’s one Thanksgiving dish that has to be on your table every year? I’d have to say it’s a tie between green bean casserole and creamed corn casserole (recipe coming soon). My mom made both every Thanksgiving and Christmas growing up, and so both of those dishes are very nostalgic for me.

6. UPDATING MY WARDROBE: What I bought from Walmart this week…yes Walmart!

7. MAKE THIS WITH ME: The scent of oranges and warmth of the oven make this simple DIY feel like the start of the holiday season to me. Thinly slice fresh oranges, bake in the oven for 3-4 hours, and let them cool completely. Once dry, use dried orange slices as decorations by hanging as garlands, adding to wreaths, or tying to gifts.

8. OVER ON THE ‘GRAM: I turned small vintage plates and a framed Christmas quote into festive fridge magnets. It’s such an easy and affordable way to add coziness to an everyday space.

9. WEEKLY MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE: “The power of finding beauty in the humblest things makes home happy and life lovely.” ~ Louisa May Alcott

10. PLANNING AHEAD TO THE HOLIDAYS: Now that it’s November, you’re probably starting to think about gifts or getting your home ready for Christmas, my Home for the Holidays page is the perfect place to start. You’ll find curated gift lists, decorating ideas, and lots of cozy inspiration.

8. CURATED CLOSET:

9. CULINARY CORNER: Rotisserie Chicken Potato Chowder: In a large pot, cook 6 slices chopped bacon until crisp; remove and reserve 2 tbsp drippings. Sauté 1 chopped onion, 2 chopped celery stalks, and 2 chopped carrots for 5 minutes. Add 3 minced garlic cloves and cook for 1 minute. Stir in 4 cups chicken broth, 2 lbs diced Yukon Gold potatoes, 1 tsp salt, and ½ tsp pepper. Simmer 15 minutes until potatoes are tender. Add 2 cups shredded rotisserie chicken, 1½ cups frozen corn, and 1 cup half-and-half; simmer 5 minutes. Serve topped with crumbled bacon, chives, and shredded cheddar.

10. THE LAST WORD: Every day is worth making special. Celebrating Every Day In November is filled with fun ideas and inspiration to make the month blissful.

ANSWER TO #7: November comes from the Latin novem, meaning nine. It originally was the ninth month in the Roman calendar before January and February were added. Bobbing for apples was used in the UK from as early as the 1300s as a way for young women and men to select possible future partners. Apples were marked and tossed into water; the result indicated their potential mate.

Suzy | Worthing Court

Weekly Wednesday Wish List #229 Worthing Court dining room.

1. FAVORITE STYLING MOMENT: This week I’ve been enjoying the view from my kitchen into the dining room. I purchased these colorful chinoiserie-style accent plates before we moved, and they’re part of the Essex Collection’s Good Fortune line. There are so many fun pieces available — you can find them right here.

2. EASY DECORATING TIP OF THE WEEK:To update your floral displays for the holidays, layer seasonal stems with your everyday greenery and arrangements. For fall, tuck in eucalyptus, wheat, or magnolia leaves. Christmas you can mix in pine or cedar sprigs and a holiday bow.

Why this works:
You’ll get a fresh, seasonal update without having to redo your entire arrangement. It’s a subtle way to transition your décor from one season to the next.

3. DID YOU KNOW: Did you know that a lint roller is the easiest way to remove glitter from table runners, stockings, or even your couch cushions after decorating? It’s much faster than a vacuum and way more effective. Let the holiday crafting begin!

4. FAVORITE RECENT PURCHASE: Since downsizing, one of my bedrooms now serves double duty as an office. The bulky office chair my former home office had to go and this new one is the perfect replacement. It is sturdy, comfortable, fits neatly under the desk and is surprisingly affordable – plus it comes in multiple colors.

5. LOVELY LIVING AND BEYOND: Bring the outside in to celebrate each season. A bowl of pinecones, a sprig of herbs in a vase or even a few colorful leaves from your yard are simple ways to enjoy nature at home.

6. READER QUESTION OF THE WEEK: “My home feels dark now that the days are shorter. How can I brighten things up a bit?” See #10 for the answer!

7. WEEKLY AWESOME FINDS:

8. WEARABLE STYLE:

  • I just found the sweetest little black v-neck midi dress and you won’t believe the price! Perfect for church, lunch with the girls, or just running errands when you still want to look put together. It comes in a pretty plaid, too!
  • You can’t go wrong with these vintage jersey long sleeve tees. They come in tons of colors and are so easy to dress up or down.
  • Give your Apple watch an upgrade with these pretty leather bands. They are so feminine and make a fantastic gift, too.
  • This pretty turtleneck sweater will take you from the holidays straight through winter and it’s half off!
  • I just love these slimming knit ponte pants, They look fabulous on everyone and a bonus that they are wrinkle free and machine washable.
  • This touch of cool layering tee is one of those wardrobe staples you’ll reach for again and again. Lightweight, breathable, and so soft, it’s perfect on its own or layered under a cardigan or jacket.
  • This is my go-to thermal top for cool days. It is the perfect buttery soft base layer.
  • Need a great everyday top? These turtleneck tees are so affordable and there are so many great patterns.

9. HOME HACK: It’s almost time for holiday cooking! Stay ahead of the rush by decluttering kitchen countertops, rarely used pans and dishes. Set up three zones: one for food prep, one for cooking/roasting, and one for serving. I also clean out my fridge and pantry around this time of year to create space for extra groceries.

10. ANSWER TO READER QUESTION (#5): This is my answer for so many decor questions … layer it! Mix table lamps, floor lamps, and sconces to create warm pools of light in different spots. Swap dark lampshades for lighter ones and you can even add mirrors to reflect light.
