If you’re like me and you haven’t really started your Christmas shopping yet, and your tree looks a little bare on the bottom due to the lack of gifts, do what I do…use your wrapping supplies as decor! I’ve done this the past couple of years and I actually love the look. The easiest way to do this, without it looking like a mess under the tree, is to use a pretty basket to collect & gather the wrapping supplies. Add your gift tags, bags, ribbon, gift toppers, etc. to the basket and place that under the tree. And voila! Not only do you have simple decor but all of your wrapping supplies will be in one spot for easy gift wrapping when you finally get around to your Christmas shopping. What do you think, would you try this easy Christmas decor hack? Don’t forget your sense of smell when decorating your home! It’s true that you don’t know what you have until it’s gone, and for me right now that’s the ability to smell…anything. After having the you-know-what virus last week, I’ve lost one of my favorite senses and the ability to smell any of the yummy Christmas scents. However, on my weekly grocery trip to Trader Joe’s yesterday, I walked by the fresh cut greenery and lo and behold I could smell the fresh cut pine! After a week of hardly smelling anything, it was heaven. I grabbed a couple of bunches and decided to make a swag with some of my favorite Christmas fragrances to hopefully get this nose working again. To make this delicious smelling swag, I tied evergreen boughs and cedar stems together with wire. Added in a few eucalyptus stems, a bundle of cinnamon sticks, and then hung a small strand of dried orange slices. I finished the swag with a striped ribbon that I’ve used throughout our Christmas decor. And, that’s it! It’s so pretty and I bet it smells amazing…yup, after I left TJ’s I couldn’t smell anymore. So, this is your reminder to not forget to decorate your home with your nose. Scents can bring you back to your favorite nostalgic memories and create a cozy, homey atmosphere for Christmas or any season. For now, I’m keeping my fingers crossed my sense of smell comes back soon so I can smell this swag! I’m so excited to finally share this DIY Christmas ornament idea with you guys, after thinking about for the past couple of weeks! These ornaments literally take 5 minutes to make, and could not look any cuter on the tree. I love a good clip-on ornament and was missing the red cardinal ones I usually use when I decided to do all neutral Christmas tree this year, so these bottle brush decorations were the perfect solution. They satisfied my need for more clip-on ornaments! What do you think, are you loving this ornament idea as much as I am?! You could also customize these little guys a million different ways by using a different color bottle brush tree, adding embellishments like ribbon or tiny ornaments, or you could even add a little Mod Podge to the trees and sprinkle with glitter. Your imagination is your only limitation! I’m someone who LOVES real candles but married someone who is terrified of fires! Every time I light a candle, hubby is right behind me blowing it out…drives me nuts! Well, I have to tell a funny story about the candles on the kitchen shelf. I knew I wanted to have candles here for cozy ambiance but I also knew they would be too close to the ceiling. So, I ordered these inexpensive LED taper candles without telling hubby. When they arrived in the mail I put them on the shelf and then turned them on. He came in the house and a few minutes later, noticed the candles and said, “You cannot have candles burning that close to the ceiling!” I started laughing to which he then realized these were not my normal candles. So, if you’re wanting to add the cozy glow of candles to a spot where it might not be safe to burn regular candles, these little babies will do the trick! And…if you have a spouse who is afraid of fire, they just might become their favorite piece of home decor too. Maybe I’m late to the party but my mind was blown last week when my friend Shannon @mylittlewhitebarn_ shared a reel with a Christmas tree she placed inside of a lampshade. (If you’re not following Shannon you need to, she always inspires me!) I was like…what?! I happened to have this tree in our kitchen, on the floor, in just the burlap bag it came in, and so I knew I could instantly make it a little prettier by placing it in this pleated lampshade that I already had. I LOVE the look!!! Always remember to think outside the box when decorating, you’ll be surprised at how you can transform something from one thing to another! In the days leading up to Thanksgiving, I always take a mental inventory of all that I have to be thankful for. It’s not that I don’t think of these things all year long, but I like to reflect over the past year and really try to be conscious of how fortunate I, and my family are. This year in particular there’s a lot to be grateful for. I was able to leave my office position that I’d been at for 7 years last spring to become a full time blogger & content creator, ERH grew in ways I never imagined it would from just a year ago, my family stayed in good health, and we have a warm home to come home to with food on the table. I really couldn’t ask for more this Thanksgiving. So, I challenge you…before you gobble down on turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce; I hope you’ll take a minute to reflect on what you’re thankful for this year. It’s in these moments that we find the true richness of our lives.
