Every year when I start decorating for Christmas, it reminds me a little of giving birth.

(Hopefully fellow moms out there can relate to my analogy lol.)

You forget just how much work it actually is until you’re in the middle of it.

You’re sweating, second guessing your life choices, and wondering why you ever thought you needed so many garlands.

It all starts out magical in theory.

You (and by you I mean I) picture yourself hanging ornaments while sipping hot cocoa, Christmas music playing in the background, maybe even White Christmas on for “ambiance.”

But the reality?

You’re knee deep in storage bins, the kitchen island looks like an explosion, and you’re pretty sure you’ll never get the string garland you had to have last year untangled.

Before you know it, your once somewhat tidy home looks like it’s been hit by a Christmas bomb.

And yet…just like childbirth, the hard parts fade from memory once it’s all said and done.

When the tree is trimmed, the stockings are hung, and your home is glowing with cozy light that only Christmas brings, you remember exactly why you do it.

It’s the feeling of coming home on a cold night and seeing the twinkle lights through the window.

It’s the smell of pine and cinnamon filling the air.

It’s watching Christmas movies in the living room with the Christmas tree in the corner.

Suddenly, the chaos, the sore back, the endless fluffing, it all feels worth it.

Until…it’s time to take it all down.

But we won’t even think about that right now.

1. FREE CHRISTMAS ART: I have over 15 Christmas printables that you can print and download for FREE. I updated mine last weekend from the botanical pomegranate print to the evergreen wreath with red bow.

2. COZY TIP OF THE WEEK: Holiday decorating doesn’t have to mean starting from scratch. Just add a bow. Ribbon tied around a lamp, vase, or a framed piece of art instantly feels festive.

3. WALMART EARLY BLACK FRIDAY DEALS: Shop my top picks from Walmart’s Early Black Friday Deals, and see what I bought for our home!

4. LITTLE THINGS I’M LOVING:

5. FROM MY KITCHEN TO YOURS: There’s one side dish that’s an absolute must on our Thanksgiving (and Christmas) table, and that’s creamed corn casserole. It’s creamy, comforting, and the perfect balance of sweet and savory.

6. UPDATING MY WARDROBE:

  • The perfect pullover for lounging around the house.
  • Keep your feet cozy in these lace up faux shearling booties.
  • Pair this versatile sweater with a pair of jeans or a skirt.
  • You can never have too many of these in your closet during the winter months.

7. MAKE THIS WITH ME: Homemade Christmas tree scent sticks make your home smell like a fresh cut pine tree, without the needles. Just add a few drops of pine, fir, or cedarwood essential oil to cinnamon sticks, let them dry, and tuck them into your faux trees or garlands for that woodsy holiday scent.

8. OVER ON THE ‘GRAM: I shared a simple (and adorable if I do say so myself) idea for your holiday table, mini house shaped butters! I softened butter, pressed it into a gingerbread house silicone mold, and the result was almost too cute to eat.

9. WEEKLY MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE: “Always be on the lookout for the presence of wonder.” ~ E.B. White

10. PLANNING AHEAD TO THE HOLIDAYS: Christmas monster cookies are the perfect make ahead treat. Bake them now, pop in the freezer, and when the holidays roll around you’ll have cookies ready for eating or gifting.

Suzy | Worthing Court

Weekly Wednesday Wish List #230 Worthing Court Thanksgiving table.

1. STYLING MOMENT: This week I have all things Thanksgiving on my mind. While this isn’t a “styling moment”, it’s something that has been a HUGE life and mind saver for me on turkey day! And I want to share it with you – for free – no email sign up required. You can thank me later.

2. EASY DECORATING TIP OF THE WEEK: When choosing your holiday color palette, repeat one accent color throughout your holiday décor. Whether it’s a pop of red, a soft blue, or dazzling gold, echo that color in ornaments, pillows, and ribbons.

Why this works:
Repeating a single color unifies your home and makes it feel intentionally decorated. It’s an effortless way to pull your rooms together with ease.

3. DID YOU KNOW: Did you know that slipping a few marshmallows into your brown sugar jar keeps it soft and scoopable for all that holiday baking? It’s kitchen magic at its simplest.

4. FAVORITE RECENT PURCHASE: I was reminded of the importance of carbon monoxide detectors when we recently had a chimney sweep service both fireplaces in our new-to-us home. They are especially important if you have any gas operated devices in your home! This is what I purchased and is the brand that I’ve used before and trust. They simply plug into the wall – no other installation required.

5. LOVELY LIVING AND BEYOND: As you prepare your home for Thanksgiving and Christmas, focus on the people gathered within its walls more than the decorations.  A gracious home is one where people feel loved, not one of perfection.

6. READER QUESTION OF THE WEEK: “I love my recliners for comfort, but they aren’t exactly the most stylish pieces. How can I make them look good with my decor? See #10 for the answer!

7. WEEKLY AWESOME FINDS:

  • I’ve always been a fan of these dried wheat wreaths. It is perfect to hang over a mirror or to welcome your Thanksgiving guests on the front door.
  • Paper Tabletop Christmas Trees have never been prettier. I just love the simplicity of them and it is a total bonus that they store flat for saving on storage space. These would be great if you are downsizing.
  • These are the prettiest velvet bow stockings. They would coordinate perfectly with so many decor styles.
  • Faux greens can be tricky to purchase, but this artificial cedar garland is truly top tier.
  • If you are looking to add a new Christmas pillow to your collection, you’ll love these Winter Berries pillow covers. They are such great quality and the embroidery just pops.
  • These metal stocking hangers are such a smart idea! No more damaged mantels.
  • Each piece in this Heirloom Serveware is stunning, but the party bucket is a favorite of mine and it is on sale this week!
  • This lit Beads and Wheat Garland is so elegant and will take you from Thanksgiving straight through the new year.

8. WEARABLE STYLE:

  • If you love a classic look, this cardigan is a great choice. The button detail really makes it stand out and there are so many great colors and patterns.
  • I love the length and color of this WanderLite quilted jacket
  • This short sleeve cable cardigan has the prettiest buttons and the puff sleeves are so sweet.
  • Looking for a great dark green no iron button up tunic top? This one is gorgeous!

9. HOME HACK: When it comes to decorating for the holidays, I’ve got a great tip that your future self will thank you for. While you’re pulling out your Christmas décor, take a few extra minutes to add labels to your empty bins. I normally place them all in my Christmas tree storage bags and boxes. When it’s time to pack up in January, you’ll know exactly which container each item belongs in and cleanup will take half the time.

10. ANSWER TO READER QUESTION (#5): The secret is to treat your recliners like any other chair in your room’s design. Start by adding a throw blanket casually draped over the back or arm, and layer in a decorative pillow that ties in with your color scheme. Anchor your recliner by placing it next to a side table with a lamp, or on a rug that connects it to the rest of your furniture. The goal is to make it feel intentional, not like a stand-alone piece. Comfort and style can absolutely coexist!
