Super Bowl Sunday is less than a week away, and in case you were wondering, party food is my favorite part of Super Bowl Sunday and well football in general.
There really is something so cozy & comforting about having a classic American sport on the television and a big bowl of snacks on hand to munch on.
I honestly didn’t know who was playing in the Super Bowl this year until I googled it (Kansas City Chiefs & Philadelphia Eagles in case you didn’t know either!).
While our home team might not be playing in the big game, we will still be watching to see who wins, and of course, use the opportunity to gorge on tasty Super Bowl party food!
So, I thought I would share one of my families favorite snacks to bring to a football party or to just munch on from the comfort of our own couch.

The Chex Mix Ingredients
These are the ingredients I use to make this bold Chex mix recipe for our family.
This recipe can easily be changed to your liking (continue reading for other Chex mix ingredient ideas).
Typically you’ll find pretzel pieces or nuts in a Chex mix recipe, however my family does not like them, so I used Cheerios instead.
- 2 cups Rice Chex Cereal
- 2 cups Wheat Chex Cereal
- 3 cups Cheerios
- 3 cups Oyster Crackers
- 3 cups Cheese Crackers
- 2 cups Cheddar Cheese Goldfish
- 1 stickUnsalted Butter

Pour the butter mixture over the cereal mixture giving it a good stir until all of the snack pieces are coated in butter.
Spread the Chex mix into a single layer on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake Chex mix in a 250 degree oven for 40 to 45 minutes.
Remove from oven and allow to cool before serving.

Tips for this Party Mix Recipe
- Don’t add the melted butter all at once to the snack pieces. Pour about half of the seasoned butter into the mix, stir, and repeat. This allows all of the snack pieces to be equally coated in that bold butter flavor.
- Use a spatula to stir. This helps to not crush the cereal or snack pieces like a spoon would. Or better yet, get down & dirty by using your hands!
- Bake this delicious Chex mix recipe at a low temperature in the oven. Rotate or stir the pan every 15 minutes or so to ensure even baking.

How can I prevent my homemade Chex mix from becoming soggy?
There are a few steps you can take during the preparation and storage of your Chex mix to prevent it from becoming soggy.
Here are some ways to maintain the crispiness of your Chex mix:
- Bake at Low Temperature: Baking at a lower temperature allows the moisture to evaporate without burning the ingredients.
- Stir During Baking: Stir the Chex mix every 15-20 minutes while baking. This helps distribute the heat evenly and prevents any one section from becoming soggy.
- Store Properly: Once the Chex mix has cooled completely, store it in an air-tight container. This helps to keep the moisture out and maintain the crispiness.
- Use a Paper Towel: If you notice any excess oil or moisture on the surface of your Chex mix, you can absorb it by placing a paper towel in the container.
- Re-Crisping: If your Chex mix does become slightly soggy, you can try re-crisping it by spreading it on a baking sheet and baking it in a low-temperature oven for a short time. Make sure to keep a close eye on it to prevent over baking.
