The 4th of July holiday is one of my favorite times of the year.

It’s a time we not only celebrate the birth of the United States with patriotism, but its a time when friends and family come together to enjoy simple pleasures like delicious food, good company, and exciting activities.

It’s a day filled with laughter, fun times, and conversations that create cherished memories.

I still fondly remember attending 4th of July parades as a child (trying to catch as much candy as possible), heading to the town common with friends for the annual carnival full of rides and games, and watching fireworks at the high school that night.

These are memories I won’t soon forget.

This year, to make 4th of July even more memorable, I have a fun craft for your patriotic celebrations.

These easy to make, budget-friendly DIY party favors are made from scrapbook paper rolled into cones, and filled with patriotic goodies found at your local dollar store or craft store.

Get ready to gather your materials, get creative, and let the crafting begin.

Your guests are in for a patriotic treat!

01

Create the Paper Cones

The first step is to take one sheet of double-sided scrapbook paper and cut it diagonally to create two equal sized triangles.

To make sure your cut is precise, place a ruler from the top left corner to the bottom right corner, lightly draw a line with a pencil, then cut along the line using sharp scissors.

Now, take each triangle and gently roll it into a cone shape.

Secure the edge using Scotch tape (on both the inside and outside) to keep the cone from unraveling.

Make sure the pointed end of the cone is sealed so none of the treats fall out the bottom.

Once the cone is taped and secure, trim the top edge with scissors to smooth out any uneven paper and create a clean, rounded opening.

02

Add Ribbon Detail

This step is completely optional, but if you want to add a little extra charm to your paper cones, I suggest adding ribbon!

Use a hole punch to create small holes evenly spaced around the top edge of the cone.

Weave ribbon through the holes and tie the ends into a bow on the front.

It’s a simple detail that gives your party favors a thoughtful touch.

03

Fill the Paper Baskets with Goodies

With your cones complete, it’s time for the fun part!

Start by placing a small handful of white crinkled paper (or tissue paper) into the bottom of each cone to provide a cushion for your items.

Then begin layering in your goodies, larger items first, like sunglasses or party poppers, followed by smaller treats like candy, glow sticks, or buttons.

Once everything is tucked inside, top off each cone with a bit more shredded paper to hold everything in place and give it a festive finish.

You'll need scrapbook paper, tape, glow sticks, mini flags, sunglasses, necklaces, buttons, and candy.

Is there anything else I could use besides paper cones to make these party favors?

FAQs

12″x12″ scrapbook paper works best for creating cones that are large enough to hold multiple goodies but still easy to handle.

Absolutely! You can also use thick wrapping paper, cardstock, or even lightweight craft paper. Just make sure it’s sturdy enough to hold its shape when rolled into a cone.

Most definitely. Swap out some of the fun novelty items for things like nips, hand wipes, or sparklers.
