When we saw Mr. ERH’s Auntie Donna on Thanksgiving, none of us realized it would be the last time we’d see her.

Just a few days later she was unexpectedly admitted to the hospital with heart failure, and shortly after, she passed away.

We laid her to rest last weekend sad that her loud, joyful presence won’t fill our holidays anymore, but grateful she’s now at peace with her late husband.

It’s amazing how quickly life can shift.

How an ordinary holiday can turn into a memory you hold tighter.

Auntie Donna may have been my husband’s aunt, but she welcomed me from the moment we met and made me feel like family.

And she adored Eleanor Rose Home.

She never missed a post and would always tell me how much she loved what I shared.

It meant more to me than she probably knew.

Knowing that something I created brought her joy is a small comfort I’ll carry with me.

Auntie Donna loved my creamed corn casserole, which was one of the reasons I finally put it on the blog.

She requested it every holiday, and I’m glad she was able to enjoy it one last time at Thanksgiving.

I have to say that losing someone has a way of bringing your priorities back into focus.

It’s a reminder that each day is truly a gift and nothing is guaranteed.

So cherish the small moments, hold your loved ones close, and make room for the things that bring you joy.

Love you Auntie Donna, rest in peace.
