Can you believe the 4th of July is a month away?

It feels like Memorial Day was just five minutes ago, yet here we are coming up on America’s 250th birthday.

Between the patriotic decorating ideas, summer shopping finds, and all the little seasonal things in the stores, I have to admit…I’m getting excited!

This week I’ve rounded up a little bit of everything.

We’re talking cozy Americana decorating ideas, a simple cleaning tip that will make your microwave smell fresh as a daisy, a DIY flag garland inspired by a much pricier version I spotted online, and some summer fashion finds I’ve been loving lately.

I’m also sharing a comforting maple walnut loaf cake recipe, a few things currently catching my eye, and a new Would You Rather June edition.

Weekly Wednesday Wish List #259 Eleanor Rose Home front door with a patriotic wreath and red geraniums.

1. GET YOUR HOME READY FOR THE 4TH: We’re about a month away from the 4th of July, and this year it’s extra special because America is celebrating her 250th birthday! If you’re ready to start decorating, I’ve got a couple of posts to help you get started:

2. COZY TIP OF THE WEEK: Fill a microwave-safe bowl with water and a few slices of fresh lemon (or lemon juice), microwave for 4-5 minutes until it steams, and then wipe the inside clean. The steam loosens everything and the lemon leaves your microwave smelling fresh without harsh chemicals.

3. AMAZON FINDS: Shop cozy finds I’m loving on Amazon.

4. LITTLE THINGS I’M LOVING:

  • Um…I have no idea how this gorgeous plaid accent chair is priced so low. INSANE.
  • I think this wooden caddy is awesome for utensils but you could also use it for craft supplies for the kiddos.
  • Because our dogs deserve to be cozy too.
  • Grab this Martha Stewart Dutch oven on sale, so many colors to choose from.

5. FROM MY KITCHEN TO YOURS: When you need something cozy and comforting, this maple walnut loaf cake is exactly what you’re looking for. It’s buttery, moist and topped with a cinnamon streusel that will make your whole house smell incredible.

6. UPDATING MY WARDROBE:

  • Carry cottage charm with you to the beach/lake/pool with this quilt patterned Bogg bag.
  • I’ve been wearing these earrings on repeat.
  • Another pair of jeans from Walmart that I LOVE. Did I mention they’re only $15?!
  • Pair this sweater with the above jeans for a high-end summer on Nantucket look.

7. MAKE THIS WITH ME: I spotted a vintage-inspired flag garland on Terrain’s website and then saw the $36 price tag. There was no way I was paying that when I knew I could make something almost identical for so much less. All you need is a pack of small flags, brewed coffee, cream ribbon, and a hot glue gun to make your own DIY American flag garland.

8. OVER ON THE ‘GRAM: I had to jump on this trend…See my top 5 horror movies.

9. WEEKLY MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:

“Life should be chic, glamorous, and colorful…and so should your home.”

Jonathan Adler

10. WOULD YOU RATHER JUNE EDITION:

Suzy | Worthing Court

Weekly Wednesday Wish List #259 Worthing Court bookshelf in living room with accent chair.

1. FAVORITE STYLING MOMENT: Settling into a new house takes a lot of time. Things move around multiple times before finding their “forever home”. These bookcases are one spot that haven’t changed since day one.

2. EASY DECORATING TIP OF THE WEEK: Open up your kitchen by clearing off a section of the counter and styling it with just one or two items like a wooden board and a vase. A little breathing room goes a long way this time of year, especially for kitchen counters.

3. DID YOU KNOW: Did you know ceiling fans should rotate counterclockwise during the summer? The breeze created helps rooms feel cooler and can even help lower energy costs.

4. FAVORITE PURCHASE: If you’re in the market for a table lamp, this one is super affordable and has great style.

Find all of my purchased and loved decorating, gadget, and organizing favorites HERE .

5. LOVELY LIVING AND BEYOND: Turn on lamps instead of overhead lights in the evening and let your home begin to quiet down with the setting sun. Soft lighting creates an atmosphere that invites rest and connection.

6. READER QUESTION OF THE WEEK: “How do I keep my home looking tidy when life gets busy?” See #10 for the answer!

9. HOME HACK: Rinse outdoor cushions with a hose instead of spot cleaning. A quick rinse and air dry in the sun often freshens them just as well as scrubbing, with far less effort.
