Spring Refresh of the Downstairs Bathroom
I know…I know…it might seem a little premature to be thinking of spring and adding that into our home when it’s only mid-January (I am always about 2 months ahead in my décor when it comes to the seasons). It’s been a while since I’ve refreshed this bathroom with new linens and soaps, and so with spring on my mind I decided to do a small spring-ish refresh. We don’t use this bathroom very often, in fact, since we added this bathroom to our home some 13 years ago, we may have only used the shower a handful of times. The plan when we were designing the addition to our home was this downstairs bathroom was only going to be a half bath. However, at the time we were building, we thought it would be a good idea to have another shower for when the kids got older. So we added the stand up shower to the design plan. The kids got older and do not use this bathroom. Everyone in our home prefers to use the upstairs bathroom (which is probably because that bathroom offers a lot more privacy), so if we could go back in time we would not have installed the shower in this bathroom (hindsight is 20/20 right?!). I honestly do not mind that everyone likes using the upstairs bathroom, it makes my life easier when cleaning our home! I should point out, it has not been 13 years since I’ve updated or refreshed anything in this bathroom! If you know me, if even just a little bit, you know that I am changing things constantly in our home. Let’s do a little bathroom refresh…shall we!
For the holidays, I like to have pine scented everything in our home; soaps, candles, cleaners. I thought it would be nice to switch out the winter pine fragrance with a more spring like scent for this refresh. I added a rose scented hand soap, lotion, and candle from Panier des Sens. I collaborated with this French based cosmetic company last year and most recently have become a brand ambassador. If you have not tried their soaps or candles, you are missing out! Their fragrances are made with essential oils and most of their ingredients are sourced right in Provence, France. But truth be told, do you really want to know my favorite part about their products? The beautiful packaging! I love the look of their products next to the sink, they look very high end for a fraction of what similar cosmetic companies would cost. For the vegan friendly Rejuvenating Rose liquid hand soap click here, hand lotion click here, or candle click here. Some of my other favorite scents from Panier des Sens are Lavender, Orange Blossom, and Provence. You can use my code HEIDI20 at checkout for 20% off your entire full price purchase…how cool is that!
A bathroom update or refresh is not complete without new crisp linens. I like to change out our hand towels each season, and I change out our bath towels every few months. I do not typically spend a lot on hand towels since they are changed out seasonally, but I do like to invest in good bath towels. Years ago, I would buy the cheapest towels and unfortunately they did not last long. They would stay wet forever, fray, and would eventually get that musty smell that I could not wash out. I learned the importance in investing in quality towels. Now that I’ve learned my lesson on what towels to buy, our towels dry quickly, hold their shape, and do not develop that musty smell after a few uses. For this refresh, I bought these hand towels from Target. I loved the fringe detail on the bottom of the towel, the neutral colors of the towel, and the print which I thought would match the romantic vibe of the rose soap and flower shaped rug. A few other neutral hand towels I am loving are; this paisley hand towel from World Market, this Turkish hand towel from Olive & Linen, this waffle knit hand towel from Crate & Barrel, and this houndstooth hand towel from Target. The white bath towels I added to this bathroom and what we have in our upstairs bathroom are from Potterybarn (well worth the money!). And finally, the knit facecloths were handmade from this Etsy shop.
Finally, the one item that inspired this whole refresh…this floral rug from Anthropologie. To say I am obsessed with this rug is an understatement! I happened to stumble across this rug a couple of weeks ago while browsing Anthropologie’s website. Do you ever come across something that you just have to have? Well, that happens to me quite often (lol) and this rug was one of those things. I loved the shape and size and thought it would fit perfectly in this small space. You can find this rose shaped bath mat from Anthropologie, here. Some of the other bath mats that I am loving right now are; this riveria bath mat & this tufted bath mat both from Anthropologie, this round bath mat from World Market (which was in this bathroom previously), and this tasseled bath mat from Target.
I am loving the final outcome of this small refresh, what do you think! Sometimes, simply updating a few small things in your home can make a big impact and doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Don’t forget to use the code HEIDI20 when shopping the Panier des Sens website! Links to everything (except the soap, lotion, and candle) can be found here on LIKEtoKNOW.it.
