Antique Wooden Bucket With Spring Florals

An antique wooden bucket and fresh seasonal flowers was the inspiration behind this beautiful, rustic, springtime look.

I am often asked how I am able to come up with new ideas for content each week and where my inspiration comes from. The answer to that is, I find inspiration and ideas anywhere and everywhere!

Inspiration can come from multiple places; an influencers post on Instagram, a photo in my feed on Pinterest, or driving by an old abandoned home in a field on my way home after a long day at work (that is how I came up with the idea for the cranberry tablescape last fall, check that out here). Sometimes it’s just a random idea that pops into my head on how I could style something this way or that, or while out shopping (or shopping online) I may see something that catches my eye and instantly know I have to have that for our home.

The inspiration for this week’s blog post came to me while shopping recently and an antique wooden bucket I found! I hadn’t been antiquing for quite a few weeks. In fact, I think the last time I ventured out to the antique store was a couple of weeks before Christmas.

The other day I decided to take a trip to my favorite antique mall the next town over to browse around. I walked the entire mall and realized I had not found anything that caught my eye. My husband will attest that this is unusual for me! I am pretty good at finding something…anything, and spending money!

I decided I would take the long way out of the mall just to take one last glance around to make sure I did not miss anything. If you are are an antique shopper like me, you know that taking a second look around can be key in not overlooking any special treasures tucked or hidden away in a corner or under a shelf.

On my second walk around and just as I was rounding a corner, there it was beneath a table (imagine a thin heavenly light shining directly down on)…an antique wooden bucket. What it was about this round wooden bucket that caught my attention, I cannot tell you. Maybe it was the size, the shape, the color, or the excellent condition the bucket was in, I am not entirely sure. All I could picture in my head was this beautiful antique wooden bucket on our sofa table overflowing with fresh white, pink, and green spring blooms. So…guess what I did? I bought it!

Antiquing inspires me. I love scouring an antique store looking at this and that, and finding something I didn’t even know existed, wanted, or needed (including an old wooden bucket). My favorite way to decorate or style our home is by combining old, vintage items with new items. Taking something old that has history and stories to tell and combining that with something new, creates a warmth and coziness in our home that I just love.

I like thinking about the history behind something old that I have found. What was this antique wooden bucket used for? Whose hands held it before mine? What stories could this object tell me if it could talk? (I’ve always had an active imagination, can you tell?!) These are the things I think about when I purchase something vintage for our home.

How to Create an Arrangement in an Antique Wooden Bucket

To recreate this floral arrangement you do not need an antique wooden bucket. You can use any vessel you desire. Vintage urns, Ironstone pitchers, bowls, or vases are all great vessel ideas for a floral arrangement. I used a white pitcher for this floral arrangement last week, I used a glass vase wrapped with grapevine for this floral arrangement, and I also used Ball mason jars for smaller floral arrangements that I grouped together.

Once I found and purchased this antique wooden bucket and to make my vision come to life, I made a beeline over to my favorite flower store, Trader Joe’s. Trader Joe’s is my favorite one stop flower shop. Their flower section is always fully stocked with beautiful florals & greenery and affordable prices that cannot be beat by any other supermarket. I discovered Trader Joe’s flowers about a year ago and have had some sort of fresh flower arrangement in our home ever since.

Spring Flowers in an Antique Bucket

To make my vision come to life, I purchased Eucalyptus, pink Tulips, white Tulips, Queen Anne’s Lace, Lamb’s Ear, and white Hydrangeas. When deciding on what I am going to purchase for flowers, I look at what looks the freshest, and then I hold each selection in my hand as if I am building a bouquet. I add and subtract florals based on what looks cohesive and pretty in my “bouquet”.

If fresh flowers is not something you want to invest in on a weekly or monthly basis, by all means use faux flowers in your home. However, there is something special about having a fresh bouquet of flowers in a home. Fresh flowers in your home can elevate your mood, boost energy, increase creativity, help to alleviate stress, among other things. There are proven benefits to having fresh flowers!

To put this floral arrangement together, I placed a glass vase inside the antique wooden bucket and began adding the fresh florals. I start with the bigger flowers and then layer in the smaller flowers, adjusting as needed as the arrangement comes together. I then fill the holes with greenery. To finish off this arrangement, I added a small bow with a cotton lace ribbon. I placed this arrangement on our sofa table, layered with a sage green checked tea towel and a pair of white ceramic rabbits.

Spring Styling

Inspiration can come from anywhere, even an antique wooden bucket! Sometimes it just takes a couple of strolls around the store and an open mind to find something that was meant to be or for a tiny seed of an idea to come to life. I hope this inspires you to create your own spring floral arrangement, possibly even using an old wooden bucket to hold your flowers! Where do you find inspiration? 1. I love this post so much! Everything you mentioned resonated with me on a personal level. I have those same thoughts about using antiques in our home and also take a second look while antiquing! Your fresh flowers are gorgeous. I wish we had a Trader Jo’s! And the bucket is very inspiring. ????
