Now before you roll your eyes, close this tab on your phone, and think to yourself, “Wow, Heidi has really gone off the deep end” …hear me out!
Christmas in July isn’t about skipping over summer.
In fact, it’s the opposite.
It’s about soaking in slower days, the sunlight, the quiet moments, and using that time to dream a little.
To get inspired before the hustle and bustle of the next season sneaks up on us.
It’s the perfect time to plan, prep, and start imagining how you want your home to feel once the Christmas lights come out and the air turns crisp.
If you’ve ever found yourself digging through bins in December or wishing you had planned ahead a little earlier, let this post be your gentle nudge to start now.
While all the best things are still in stock!
So, I’m sharing a sneak peek at the biggest Christmas decor trends for 2025 to help inspire your most festive (and stylish) holiday season yet.
Whether you’re an early decorator or wait until the day after Thanksgiving, these ideas are perfect to start collecting now.
What is a Home Decor Trend
So what exactly is a trend, especially when it comes to home decor?
Simply put, it’s a style, color, or look that many people are drawn to at a certain point in time.
It’s what you start seeing pop up everywhere from store shelves to Pinterest boards to your favorite home accounts on Instagram.
Trends reflect what’s happening in the world around us…how we’re living, what we’re craving, or even how we want our homes to feel.
They can influence everything from the colors we paint our walls to the pillows we toss on the couch.
Some trends come and go quickly, while others stick around and slowly shape how we decorate our homes for years to come.
Use Trends as Inspiration, Not a Rulebook
The most important thing to remember about trends is that although they can be fun, they’re not meant to dictate how you decorate.
Instead of feeling like you have to follow every new style that comes along, think of trends as little sparks of inspiration.
Ideas you can borrow, tweak, or completely ignore depending on what feels right for your home.
Do you love the look of mixed metals but still enjoy your traditional red and green?
Blend the two.
Are you drawn to vintage touches but not ready to go full nostalgic neutral?
Add some velvet ribbon or mercury glass ornaments.
At the end of the day, your holiday decor should reflect YOU.
Your memories, your style, and what makes the season feel magical in your home.
Trends come and go, but cozy, meaningful decorating will never go out of style.
“Let trends inspire you, not overwhelm you.”

What is the best way to incorporate Christmas trends into my existing Christmas decorations?
The best way to incorporate trends into what you already own, is to layer in a few small touches that complement what you have and love.
Here’s a few tips on how to decorate with trends while also staying true to you…
- Start with accents. Think ribbons, ornaments, or even gift wrap. Swapping out just a few of these for trendy colors or materials can instantly freshen up your look.
- Mix old with new. Pair your classic pieces with a few trendy items.
- Focus on one area. Pick one spot to experiment with like your fireplace mantel, a coffee table, or even your Christmas tree.
- Shop your home first. You might be surprised at what you already have tucked away like extra ribbon or vintage ornaments that could be “on-trend”.
The Don’ts When it Comes to Home Decor Trends
While it’s fun to bring in a few trendy touches for the season, it’s just as important to know what not to do.
Because I know the last thing I want is a home that feels more chaotic than cozy.
Before you swap out every ornament or fill your cart with the latest must-haves, here are a few common decorating mistakes to avoid when using Christmas trends in your home…
Don’t Skip the Classics
The heart of a cozy holiday home comes from the classics.
A simple evergreen wreath, your favorite stockings, the nativity set you’ve had for years, or that nostalgic ornament that makes its way onto the tree every December.
These timeless pieces are the foundation of your holiday style, and they never go out of season.
Instead of replacing them, use trends to layer in a little extra sparkle or a fresh twist.

Don’t Get Stuck on a Theme
A themed Christmas can sound like a great idea but here’s the thing…it can also start to feel a little too kitschy or overdone.
When you stick too closely to a theme, it leaves little room for those personal touches.
Instead, let your decor tell a story.
Mix textures, blend colors, and combine old with new.
That layered, collected look brings warmth, character, and heart to your home for the holidays.
Don’t Neglect Your Personal Style
Your holiday decor should reflect what you love, not just what’s popular this year.
No matter what the experts or big name designers are saying, if something brings you joy and feels like you, it belongs in your home.

Classic Red

I noticed a lot more red accents in Christmas decorations last year than in previous years, and I think we’ll be seeing even more of it this season.
I don’t think neutrals are going anywhere (more on that in a minute), but red is definitely stepping back into the spotlight for 2025.
Fresh ideas on how to decorate with red this holiday season…
- Pair red with blue. This combo is trending for 2025! Think deep cherry red and dusty or navy blue for a color scheme that feels fresh and nostalgic.
- Tie red bows everywhere. On wreaths, garlands, cabinet knobs, or even wrapped around candlesticks.
- Mix with natural elements. Red berries look beautiful nestled into greenery, pinecones, or tucked into a simple centerpiece.
- Bring red into the kitchen. Display a bowl of red apples or cranberries, hang red striped tea towels, or add a red ribbon to a hook or kitchen wreath.
We’re talking rich cherry reds, cranberry tones, and even deep ruby shades that add a bold pop while still feeling cozy and classic.
Neutral Colors

If bold red isn’t quite your thing, don’t worry neutrals are here to stay.
In fact, I think they’re getting cozier than ever for Christmas 2025.
Think creamy whites, soft taupes, and warm browns coming together to create that comforting holiday feeling we all crave.
Warm browns, in particular, have been everywhere this year (goodbye gray!!!).
Shades like chestnut, cocoa, and cinnamon bring a grounded, earthy feel to Christmas decor.
Plus, they go so well with natural materials like wood, linen, and paper, and they add that vintage, heirloom vibe without feeling fussy or old-fashioned.
Nature Inspired Decorations

Christmas decorating is taking cues straight from the great outdoors from dried orange slices and foraged greenery to wooden ornaments and cinnamon bundles.
It’s a return to what’s real and meaningful, with pieces that feel both beautiful and grounded.
This style is about more than just aesthetics, it’s about creating a home with that cottagecore feel.
The bonus of this trend…decorating with nature is one of the most budget-friendly ways to bring Christmas into your home.
You don’t need to fill your shopping cart, you just need a few supplies, and a walk through your backyard or local farmer’s market.
Ribbon & Bows

Ribbons and bows have become a huge trend in women’s fashion and they’ll be trending in holiday decorations too.
Just like adding a bow to your hair or blouse can make an outfit feel polished and feminine, the same goes for your Christmas decor.
Bows can be tied to Christmas tree branches, on garlands, wrapped around candlesticks, and even hanging from wall art.
What I love most about this trend is how simple and affordable it is to pull off.
A spool of ribbon and a little imagination can completely transform the look and feel of a room.
The Traditional Christmas

Trends may come and go, but there’s something about a classic Christmas that never goes out of style.
In fact, 2025 is seeing a renewed love for traditional holiday decor.
We’re talking timeless red and green, gold bells, greenery everywhere, and the kind of ornaments that have been on your tree for years (or even generations).
With this style, you don’t have to try too hard.
It’s comforting and cozy, with stockings hung by the fire, a wreath on every window, and candles glowing at night.
Gold Accents

Gold is always a classic at Christmas, but this year, it’s all about the pairings.
It’s being combined with a variety of color palettes to create a look that feels elevated and stylish.
You’ll see gold paired with champagne colors for an elegant feel.
With navy for a deep, rich look.
And, warm browns for a cozy, vintage-inspired vibe.
2025 Trending Christmas Color Palettes:
Block Print Patterns

Block print has been a popular pattern for a couple of years now and it isn’t just for table linens anymore.
Inspired by traditional hand-stamped designs, you’ll notice block print patterns are popping up on everything from wrapping paper and stockings to throw pillows and tree skirts.
A few easy ways to try the trend…
- Try wrapping gifts in a pretty block print wrapping paper.
- Throw pillows or a table runner in a seasonal block print can add holiday charm without feeling too themed.
- Mix and match block print with solids, stripes, or florals for a layered, cozy look.
Block print is delicate, detailed, and has that perfectly imperfect, handmade feel I adore all year long.
Whimsical Christmas Decorations

This trend is all about embracing the joy and magic of the season with gingerbread houses, candy cane striped details, and ornaments shaped like sweets, bells, or even little woodland animals.
You’ll notice pastel color palettes with soft pinks, icy blues, mint greens, and buttery yellows mixed with snowy whites and glittering details.
On the other end of the color spectrum, bold jewel tones are also popular with sapphire blues, emerald greens, and rich magentas showing up in Christmas ornaments, ribbons, and wrapping paper.
What ties all of this together…a sense of fun and whimsy!

Hi Lori, I’ll add the link here for the gingham ribbon. The color is called rust which is actually more of a burgundy color. You’ll see brown gingham in this link too: https://rstyle.me/+JzIuvsTBU05AhkjKAzj6WA
