What makes a flower, an Easter flower?
The designation of a flower as an “Easter flower” is often rooted in cultural, religious, and symbolic associations rather than the qualities of the flower itself.
Certain flowers have become traditional choices for Easter decorations due to the symbolism they carry and their seasonal availability.
Here are some factors that contribute to a flower being considered an Easter flower:
- Symbolic Meaning: Flowers chosen for Easter often have symbolic meanings associated with themes of renewal, rebirth, purity, and the triumph of life over death.
- Religious Significance: Churches and religious communities often incorporate flowers into their Easter celebrations to enhance the visual and symbolic elements of the occasion.
- Seasonal Timing: Many traditional Easter flowers bloom in spring, aligning with the timing of the Easter season.
- Aesthetic Appeal: Bright and colorful blooms are commonly associated with Easter, contributing to the festive and joyful atmosphere of the holiday.
- Familiarity & Popularity: Over time, certain flowers have become popular choices for Easter decorations simply due to their familiarity and widespread acceptance.
Where is the best place to find Easter flowers?
As Easter approaches, you may be wondering where the best place to find Easter flowers might be.
While there are a number of options, my favorite place to flower shop is Trader Joe’s because of their variety, quality, and affordability.

TJ’s is known for their ever changing selection and seasonal offerings. The quality of their flowers is consistently high, making it one of my favorite destinations when I’m shopping for fresh flowers.
I know not everyone has a Trader Joe’s nearby so here are a few other places you can find spring flowers:
- Local Grocery Stores or Supermarkets
- Local Flower Shops
- Farmer’s Market
- Online Retailers (like Urban Stems or Farmgirl Flowers)
The Most Popular Easter Flowers for Decorating & Easter Arrangements
Here are my top fresh flower picks that I like to use in Easter decorating, Easter floral arrangements, and creating a festive aesthetic that embodies the Easter holiday.
Easter Lilies
These flowers are the traditional Easter flower in my opinion.
Lilies represent renewal and rebirth. The pure white petals of the Easter lily are said to symbolize the purity of the resurrection, making it a popular choice for churches and homes as well.
You can place a potted white lily as a centerpiece on your Easter table or simply arrange a bouquet of lilies in a vase for easy Easter decor.

Pro Tip: You’ll want to remove the pollen laden anthers located in the center of the lily to prevent staining. Use a pair of tweezers or your fingers to gently pluck out these tiny, yellow anthers before they mature and release pollen. Removing the anthers not only prevents potential stains on clothing or surfaces but also extends the life of the lily by directing its energy toward blooming and maintaining its fresh appearance.
Tulip
Tulips are another classic choice that easily elevates Easter decor.
This popular spring flower comes in a variety of colors, from soft pastels to vibrant hues, allowing you to tailor your arrangements to suit your color scheme.
The versatility of tulips makes them a favorite flower for both traditional and contemporary Easter decor.

Daffodil

With their vibrant yellow blossoms, forsythia branches add natural elegance to arrangements.
Place them in a tall vase or weave them into wreaths and garlands.
