We always seem to be the last area in the country to get the big, popular fast food restaurants.

Commercials for this restaurant or that restaurant will pop up on the television every now and again, and we wonder where the heck is this place and will we ever get one located near us?

A few years ago, Chick-fil-a finally opened a restaurant about 20 minutes away from our home, and we couldn’t wait to try out the menu.

While the family enjoyed the chicken sandwiches, chicken nuggets, and their famous macaroni & cheese, I actually fell in love with the Cobb salad.

The medley of fresh ingredients, delicious flavors, and the fact that I could get a somewhat healthy meal quickly became an instant obsession of mine.

It inspired me to create my own copycat Cobb salad recipe so that I can control the ingredients, customize the recipe to suit the tastes of our family, and enjoy a healthier meal option without sacrificing on flavor.

Plus, the convenience of whipping up this salad at home means I can skip the line at the drive-thru and enjoy a satisfying salad whenever the cravings strike (even on a Sunday)!

Tips & Tricks

  • No air fryer…no problem! Cook the popcorn chicken in a conventional oven according to the package instructions.
  • To achieve perfectly boiled eggs, place them in a pot of cold water and bring to a boil. Once water comes to a boil, remove the pot from the heat, cover, and let the eggs sit for about 10-12 minutes before transferring them to an ice bath. This method helps prevent overcooking the egg and ensures delicious creamy yolks.
  • For perfectly crispy bacon, bake in the oven on a wire rack placed over a baking sheet. This allows the bacon to cook evenly and become crispy without the need for constant flipping.
  • To save time consider using store-bought hardboiled eggs or pre-cooked bacon from your grocery store.
  • Customize the salad greens according to your preference. While romaine is the classic choice for this salad; iceberg, baby spinach, arugula, kale, or a spring mix could be used instead for added variety and nutrition.
  • Depending on your taste buds, you can adjust the consistency of the avocado dressing by adding more or less Greek yogurt or lime juice. For a thicker dressing use less liquid, and for a thinner consistency, add a splash of water or extra lime juice.
  • To prevent the avocado dressing from browning, store it in an airtight container with plastic wrap pressed directly onto the surface of the dressing to minimize air exposure.

What is the best way to store homemade Cobb salad?

For maximum freshness, store salads in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Store the salad dressing separately so you don’t end up with a soggy salad.

You can also store each salad component separately and assemble when you’re ready to eat.

How can I make this copycat Chick-fil-a salad recipe even healthier?

Here are a few ideas on how to make your Chick-fil-a cobb salad even healthier without compromising on flavor:

  • Use Grilled or Baked Chicken: Instead of using air fried popcorn chicken bites, use grilled or baked white meat chicken.
  • Go for Turkey Bacon: Swap traditional bacon for turkey bacon to cut down on saturated fat and calories.
  • Extra Veggies: Load up on a variety of colorful vegetables like red cabbage or purple onion to boost the salad’s nutritional content.
  • Modify the Dressing: Make the dressing even lighter by using a low-fat Greek yogurt or reducing the amount of oil in the dressing.
  • Add Nuts or Seeds: Sprinkle a handful of nuts or seeds (like almonds or sunflower seeds) for added healthy fats, protein, and crunch.
  • Control Portion Sizes: Pay attention to portion sizes, especially with ingredients like cheese and avocado. While these add delicious flavor and nutrition, moderating portions helps manage calorie intake.
  • Enhance with Herbs: Add unique flavor without extra calories by incorporating fresh herbs like cilantro, parsley, or dill which can elevate the taste while providing antioxidants and other health benefits.
