It’s fruity, refreshing, and somehow manages to strike the perfect balance between cozy comfort and summer coolness.

Sangria may traditionally be associated with cozy evenings and intimate gatherings, however sangria’s chilled and fruity goodness also makes it great for hot summer days.

Sipping on a glass of ice cold white sangria not only satisfies your thirst, but also offers a respite from the summer heat, making this drink a cozy yet refreshing choice.

If you’re looking for the perfect drink that you can serve a crowd or just enjoy on your own, this versatile and delicious sangria recipe is a must try!

What is sangria?

Before we dive into the recipe, let’s talk about what makes a sangria…sangria!

Sangria is a traditional Spanish beverage that has gained popularity in recent years for its refreshing and vibrant qualities.

It typically consists of red or white wine, chopped fresh fruit, a sweetener, and sometimes a splash of liquor.

Historically, red sangria was named for its deep red color, resembling blood.

However, modern variations have expanded to include white sweet wine, like the recipe I’ll be sharing with you today.

One of the wonderful things about sangria is that it’s a versatile drink that allows for endless customization.

It’s perfect for entertaining guests, since it can be made in large quantities and served in pitchers.

The combination of wine and fruity flavors creates a delicious drink that’s a refreshing beverage on a hot summer day as well as other times of the year.

What you’ll love about this recipe:

  • PERFECT FOR ANY OCCASION – Whether you’re hosting a large gathering or simply want to enjoy a glass alone, this recipe is great for both.
  • EASY TO PREPARE – You don’t have to be a seasoned mixologist to whip up a batch of this delicious summer beverage. The recipe is simple, and most of the work involves letting the flavors meld together as the sangria chills in the refrigerator.
  • VERSATILITY – You can easily customize the drink to suit your taste preferences and availability of seasonal fruits. Experiment with different combinations of berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries) or even add in some sliced peaches or citrus fruits for an extra citrusy kick.

Helpful Tips
  • Start with cold wine, vodka, and lemonade so your sangria is refreshing from the first pour without needing a lot of ice that can water it down.
  • Sangria gets better as it sits. Let it chill for a few hours (or overnight) so the fruit flavors infuse the wine.
  • If you don’t have berries you can try citrus slices in the winter or peaches and nectarines in late summer.
  • To keep sangria your from getting diluted, add ice to the glasses instead of the pitcher.

How to Customize This Berry Sangria Recipe

Here are a few ideas on how to change this simple cocktail to suit your taste buds…

  • Sweetness Level: Adjust the sweetness of your sangria by experimenting with different types of wine. If you prefer a sweeter sangria, fruity white wines like Riesling or Moscato would work well. For a drier and crisper sangria, try dry white wines like Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio.
  • Spirit Swap: While this recipe uses vodka, you can switch it up by using rum, gin, or even a raspberry vodka for a fresh summer flavor.
  • Fruit Medley: Get creative with your fruit flavors! In addition to berries and other seasonal fruits like watermelon, pineapple, mango, or pomegranate seeds would be a delicious addition.
  • Herbal Infusion: Add a few sprigs of fresh mint, basil, or rosemary to the mixture and let them infuse into the wine.

This sangria can last for up to 2-3 days in the refrigerator.

Your FAQs Answered

Yes! Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, or even a dry Rosé can work. Just keep in mind that sweeter wines will make the sangria sweeter overall.

You can use lemon lime soda, club soda with a splash of lemon juice, or even sparkling water for a less sweet option.

Definitely. Just leave it out for a lighter version. The wine and fruit still make a delicious sangria.

Yes! Frozen berries work well and help chill the sangria. Keep in mind that the frozen fruit will be a bit softer once thawed.

Absolutely! For a family-friendly or mocktail version, swap the white wine for white grape juice or a non-alcoholic white wine, and use lemon lime soda or sparkling lemonade in place of both the sparkling lemonade and vodka. You’ll still get the fruity, refreshing flavor but without the booze.
