If I’m being completely honest, I typically don’t decorate our bathrooms for the holidays.

I’m not sure why.

It could be because I’m just too pooped to add holiday decorations to another room or maybe it’s because the bathroom seems like a space no one really notices.

But this year, I had an extra eucalyptus garland lying around and I thought what if I try something different?

I draped it over the bathroom mirror, and BAM!

The room instantly felt cozier and more festive.

It was such a simple addition, but it brought a fresh holiday feel into a room that usually gets left out of my seasonal decor rotation.

That one garland got me thinking (isn’t it funny how that happens sometimes) about other little ways that I could make the bathroom feel like a part of the Christmas season.

I’m not talking about anything major here, just small updates like switching out linens, adding a festive candle, or hanging a piece of holiday artwork.

These things don’t require much effort, but add a ton of charm.

So, if you’re ready to spread a little holiday cheer in every corner of your home, here are some easy Christmas bathroom decorations to get you started!

What to do Before You Start Decorating Your Bathroom for Christmas

Before you add Christmas decorations in any room, a little preparation can go a long way, and the bathroom is no exception.

To create a cozy, festive bathroom that still feels fresh and functional, here are five steps you’ll want to take before you start decorating…

Create a festive atmosphere in one of the most used spaces in your home with holiday decorations.

One. Clean & Declutter

Start with a clean slate.

Give your bathroom a thorough cleaning, clearing counters, wiping down surfaces, and organizing any clutter.

This will make decorating easier once you’re ready and you’ll feel so good knowing you have a clean, beautifully decorated bathroom once you’re done.

Two. Plan Your Color Scheme

Just like the rooms in the rest of your home, choose a color palette for your holiday decor that complements your bathroom’s existing style.

Sticking to a palette makes the decor feel intentional and cohesive.

Using too many colors can make your bathroom feel cluttered and small.

Three. Choose a Scent

A festive scent can instantly set the holiday mood, especially in the bathroom.

Decide if you’d like to incorporate holiday scented candles, essential oil diffusers, or festive soaps.

Scents like cinnamon, pine, and peppermint are perfect for creating that cozy Christmas magic.

pro Tip
  • Just choose one or two scents that complement one another to avoid overwhelming the space, especially if you have a smaller bathroom.

Four. Assess Your Bathroom for Safety & Functionality

Make sure your holiday decor won’t interfere with essential functions.

For instance, garlands around mirrors or candles near sinks can be beautiful, but make sure they don’t obstruct your daily routine.

And, if you’re using any electrical decor like string lights, double check that they’re safe for bathroom use, especially in areas that may get damp.

Five. Think About Simple but Impactful Decorations

Choose decor items that are simple but make a statement.

Mini wreaths, garlands, or even a bowl of pine cones or holiday potpourri can go a long way without overcrowding one of the most used spaces in your home.

10+ Best Christmas Bathroom Decor Ideas

Now that your bathroom is prepped and ready to go, it’s time for the fun part…decorating!

It’s important to remember that as the holiday season approaches, you don’t need to go overboard to bring charm into this room; just a few little touches can make a big impact.

Hang a Garland on the Bathroom Mirror

The mirror is often the focal point of the bathroom, making it a perfect spot for holiday charm.

Personally, I think a eucalyptus garland is perfect here, but an evergreen garland works beautifully too if that’s what you have on hand.

The soft green color of eucalyptus brings a natural, understated festive touch that blends beautifully with just about any decor style.

I simply draped our faux garland over the mirror and then added a burgundy satin ribbon in the middle for a pop of color.

As the holiday season approaches add a garland to your bathroom mirror for festive cheer.

Note: You could even add a touch of sparkle by winding a strand of small battery-operated Christmas lights through the garland!

Update Bath Towels & Linens

Switching out your bathroom linens throughout the year is a great way to make your bathroom feel fresh and elevated.

However, I do stay away from overly holiday themed towels.

Instead, I prefer choosing linens in neutral colors or soft patterns that bring a subtle, coziness to the space.

This way, I can use them throughout multiple seasons if I want to, without needing to swap them out right after the festive season.

I like to shop for towels in shades like white, cream, or sage green for Christmas with simple, understated accents.

What to Avoid When it Comes to Bathroom Linens

Now when choosing holiday linens for the bathroom, it’s easy to get caught up in all the festive options, but some linens can be too themed or impractical for everyday use.

Here’s what you should avoid…

  • Overly Themed Holiday Prints: Towels with loud holiday prints (think reindeer, Santa faces, or bold snowmen) can feel overly seasonal and limit how long you can use them.
  • Thin Low Quality Towels: Holiday towels are sometimes more about looks than quality. If you’re investing in holiday linens, choose high-quality, durable options that will feel comfortable and last through the season.
  • Bright Red or Deep Green Towels: While they might be festive, red and green towels can sometimes bleed color in the wash, fade quickly, or clash with existing decor.
  • Excessive Embellishments: Towels with bells, beads, or heavy embroidery might look pretty, but they’re often impractical for a bathroom setting where towels need to be functional.
  • Holiday Bath Mats with Large Prints or Characters: While it may be tempting to go all out, heavily themed bath mats can overpower your bathroom.

Should I change my shower curtain for Christmas?

You certainly can, but I don’t think it’s necessary. It can be fun to swap it out for a festive one, but it’s not essential if you want to keep things simple. Instead, add small touches around the bathroom that bring the holiday spirit without needing to replace larger items like shower curtains.

Change Out Candles for Seasonal Scents

Scented candles are a must in the bathroom, well in our house anyways.

They set the mood, making your bathroom feel more luxurious and inviting.

Swap out regular candles for ones in holiday scents like cinnamon, pine, or peppermint.

You can place a candle near the sink or a few on shelves and let the aromas enhance your cozy Christmas bathroom.

Swap Out Hand Soaps for Festive Ones

An easy way to bring holiday cheer into the bathroom is by switching out everyday hand soaps for festive, seasonally scented ones.

Just like candles, look for soaps with holiday scents like peppermint, cinnamon, pine, or vanilla to create that festive atmosphere each time someone washes their hands.

I like to find bottles in seasonal colors or with charming labels to add just another small decorative touch to the bathroom sink.

If you want to use the soap dispenser you already have on your countertop, just pour a holiday scented soap into the dispenser for a festive upgrade.

Refresh Artwork in the Bathroom

One of my favorite ways to update our home seasonally is by swapping out artwork.

It’s such an easy change that brings a fresh feel to any space, including the bathroom.

Here’s my little secret when it comes to refreshing your artwork…you don’t need to change the frame, just swap out the print!

Simply slip in a seasonal piece like a vintage winter landscape, a classic holiday illustration, or even a pretty Christmas card for a whole new look.

Add seasonal artwork to your guest bath walls to add a little of the Christmas season to the bathroom.

I found the vintage winter print currently hanging in our bathroom online at BFF Print Shop.

All I did was purchase the file, download & print it, and then place it in an existing frame.

It took only a few minutes, but it transformed the space, adding a cozy touch that feels perfect for our holiday bathroom.

  • Wreath on the Bathroom Door: A wreath on the bathroom door brings holiday cheer into the room before you even step inside!
  • Add Greenery to Shelves: Tuck sprigs of greenery like pine, eucalyptus, or fresh cedar stems onto bathroom shelves. This will bring in a natural, cozy look without taking up too much space.
  • Hang Mini Wreaths: Mini holiday wreaths can be hung on the wall, the back of the bathroom door, or even over cabinet doors. Use a small wreath with a simple satin ribbon for a timeless look.
  • Holiday Bath Bombs or Bath Salts: Display bath bombs or holiday scented bath salts on a tray or in a glass jar around your tub area.
  • Faux Greens in a Vase on the Counter: A vase or mason jar filled with faux winter greens such as pine branches, holly, or eucalyptus adds such a pretty touch to the bathroom countertop.
  • Upside Down Bouquet in the Shower: I love hanging a small bouquet of eucalyptus or winter greens upside down in the shower. The warmth from the shower releases the essential oils from the leaves, giving your bathroom the most wonderful fragrance.
