With a high school graduate in our house this year, Mr. ERH & I are feeling the pressure of spring cleaning more than ever.

Family and friends are headed to our home for a graduation party at the end of May, so there’s an extra level of motivation (or maybe it’s a little bit of panic) to get both the inside and outside of our home looking fresh, tidy, and ready for guests.

But let’s be real.

Between daily life, work, and everything else in between, time is limited.

A full home makeover is not happening.

Instead, we’re focusing on fast, simple ways to get the house ready for spring (and a party) without spending a fortune or adding more stress to our already busy schedules.

If you’re also wanting to refresh your home, whether you’re preparing for guests like us or simply wanting a fresh start after winter, my hope is that these ideas will help make your home feel light, bright, and welcoming without a ton of time or effort.

Grab a glass of lemonade, throw open those windows, and let’s make our homes feel fresh, cozy, and ready for the spring season…together!

50+ Spring Home Refresh Ideas

Ok, so now that we’re ready to give our homes a spring refresh, I find the easiest way to success is by breaking down my to-do list into simple, manageable steps.

Instead of feeling overwhelmed by trying to do everything at once, and not getting anything done at all, I’ve organized these spring refresh ideas into different sections.

Deep cleaning, decluttering & organization, spring decor, and outdoor maintenance so you can focus on what fits your home and schedule best.

It doesn’t matter if you dedicate an entire weekend to refreshing your home or have just a few minutes during the day, remember that the simplest changes, like opening the windows for fresh air, can have a really big impact!

Home spring refresh ideas include updating the wreath on your front door and adding a new doormat.

Deep Cleaning

Before we can get to the fun part, styling and decorating for spring, the first step in a true spring refresh is my least favorite part of being an adult, deep cleaning.

1. Open the windows to let in fresh air.

The air inside your home can be two to five times more polluted than the air outside (gross!!!) so letting in natural air helps clear out winter’s stale, dirty air.

2. Declutter and donate items you no longer need.

Clutter will weigh you down. A clutter-free home feels lighter, brighter, and more organized.

3. Deep clean area rugs & carpets.

Give them a good vacuum or shampoo to remove dust and allergens built up over winter.

4. Rotate and fluff your mattress.

Give your mattress a good spring cleaning by rotating or flipping it and vacuuming to remove dust and allergens.

5. Wash windows inside and out.

Clean windows let in more natural light, instantly brightening your home.

6. Wipe down baseboards and moldings.

It’s a small detail, but clean baseboards can make an entire room look fresher and you’ll be shocked at how dirty they become over time. I may know from experience…shhh.

7. Refresh curtains by washing or swapping for lighter fabrics.

Cotton, linen, or sheer curtains make rooms feel airier and more open which is perfect for the warmer months.

Swap out heavy thick curtains for light airy ones in the spring to make your home feel cooler.

8. Wash or replace shower curtains and liners.

Swap out dingy shower curtain liners and give your shower curtain a good wash to refresh your bathroom.

9. Dust and polish furniture.

A quick dusting session can make furniture pieces look brand new.

10. Clean light fixtures and ceiling fans.

Removing dust and grime will make your lights and fans look brand new.

11. Clean vent covers.

Dust and grime build up over time, reducing air quality and efficiency. Remove vent covers, give them a quick vacuum, and wipe down with warm, soapy water.

12. Replace filters.

Replace filters in your HVAC system, air purifiers, and range hoods.

13. Organize and wipe down kitchen cabinets.

Trust me, once you declutter and clean your kitchen cabinets, you’ll feel like a million bucks!

14. Deep clean appliances.

A fresh smelling fridge and a shiny oven make your kitchen feel new.

15. Refresh the microwave.

Freshen your microwave by heating a bowl of water with lemon slices for a few minutes, then wipe away loose grime for a sparkling clean and citrusy scent.

heidi’s cleaning Tips

  • Tackle High Traffic Areas First: Focus on spaces like the kitchen, bathrooms, and entryway, where dirt builds up the fastest.
  • Use the Top to Bottom Method: Always clean from the highest surfaces (like shelves and ceiling fans) down to the floors to avoid re-dirtying areas.
  • Wipe Down Forgotten Spots: Don’t forget door handles, light switches, and cabinet knobs!
  • Make it Fun: Put on your favorite playlist or podcast to keep the process (somewhat) enjoyable and motivating.

Organizing & Decluttering

Now that your home is deep cleaned and feeling fresh, it’s the perfect time to declutter and get organized.

16. Swap out heavy winter coats for spring jackets.

Pack away bulky winter gear to free up space and bring out those lighter jackets for cool spring days.

17. Organize and rotate seasonal shoes.

A tidy shoe area makes daily routines smoother.

18. Declutter your purse and refresh everyday essentials.

A clean handbag makes life feel just a little more put together.

Having everything in order makes creative DIY projects more enjoyable.

22. Clear out expired beauty and skincare products.

Freshen up your daily routine with a decluttered bathroom.

23. Organize your home office.

A clutter free workspace is scientifically proven to increase productivity.

Heidi’s decluttering Tips

  • Use the 5-Minute Rule: If a task takes less than five minutes (like sorting mail or clearing a countertop), do it immediately.
  • Declutter One Space at a Time: Instead of tackling your whole house, focus on small areas like a single drawer, shelf, or closet section to set yourself up for success.
  • Sort by Category, Not Room: Group similar items (like shoes, books, or kitchen gadgets) to see what you have and eliminate duplicates.
  • Use Clear Bins & Labels: Transparent storage makes it easy to find things while keeping spaces neat and organized.
  • One In, One Out: For every new item you bring into your home, remove one to prevent clutter from building back up.
