Behind the Stove Decor
With one of the final pieces of our kitchen remodel completed, we added a little behind the stove decor that provided yet another layer of warmth & coziness to our neutral cottage-farmhouse style kitchen.

If you’ve been around here for a while, you know our kitchen remodel is now entering another year. Yes, year. Not days or months, but year. It’s almost 1 year to the day that we began our kitchen remodel, and did I foresee it taking this long…hmmm maybe. As do it ourselfers, everything takes forever when your trying to juggle work, kids, and just life in general.
Is the kitchen done? The answer is no. We still need to paint the cabinets and change the kitchen cabinet pulls and knobs (when will that be done, I have no idea). However, we did complete one of the last pieces of the remodel recently and that was the vent hood that my handsome hubby built (he is the behind the scenes creator of magic at ERH) above the stove.
With the vent hood built, painted, and stained it was time for me to do my part… the decorating and styling!
Finding a Hanging Rod for Behind the Stove Decor
The area behind the stove felt a little bare and cold with all of the white beadboard and open space between the stove and hood, so I decided it needed a little behind the stove decor. I wanted to add something here that was functional, had depth, and that I could easily re-style without having to fill holes or repaint. (You guys know by now nothing stays the same in our home for long, right?!) So, a hanging rod seemed like the best way to cozy up the area behind the stove.
I was a little surprised at how hard it was to find a hanging rod for the kitchen that was not hundreds of dollars, the right color, and the size we needed. We settled on this hanging rod that we found on Amazon. It was the size we needed and very affordable, however it was the wrong color but we knew that was something we could easily change.
Once the hanging rod arrived, I knew it would be perfect for behind the stove. It just needed a little color change. We tried to Rub ‘n Buff the rod European Gold but with the satiny smooth finish, it just did not work. We ended up finding metallic antique gold spray paint at Ace Hardware, and surprisingly, we loved the color!
Kitchen Hanging Rod Options
Here are some other hanging rod options that I found and loved. Ultimately, I am extremely happy with the rod we purchased. The price could not be beat, the size was perfect, and were able to change the color with a little spray paint.
- Amazon Rothley Hanging Pot Hanger: This is the hanging rod we have in our kitchen. The 23.7″ rod fit perfectly in the small space.
- Rejuvenation Brookside Rail System
- Pottery Barn Wall Mounted Metal Bar
- Wayfair Wall Mounted Pot Rack
- Etsy Brass Kitchen Rack
- Etsy Unlacquered Brass Wall Mounted Kitchen Rack
- Anthropologie Iron Rail

Adding Behind the Stove Decor
With the rod up, it was time to decorate! I wanted to keep the behind the stove decor simple and functional, but also aesthetically pleasing.
I simply added a couple of pot holders in neutral spring colors, a wooden slotted spoon, and a colander. All things I use on a daily basis and now can quickly grab whenever I need them.

Neutral Pot Holders | Wooden Slotted Spoon | Ceramic Colander
Other Ideas for Behind the Stove Decor
This simple, functional decor can easily be changed for the seasons by swapping out the pot holders for maybe some blue stripped ones for summer or brown & white gingham pot holders in the fall. Here are some other ideas on what could be hung on a rod behind the stove.

Pot Holder | Wire Cooling Rack | Bread Basket | Neutral Kitchen Towels | Paddle Serve Board | Blue Kitchen Towels | Round Serving Board | Rattan Woven Serving Tray
The Kitchen Before the Remodel

Our Kitchen is in a Magazine…wait what?!
There was a reason I published a blog post about our kitchen on this exact day. It’s because our kitchen is in the 2023 spring edition of Cottages & Bungalows magazine that hits newsstands TODAY! This is the first time our home is in a national magazine, and it feels surreal. I styled, photographed, and wrote the article and would love for you to check it out! You can purchase a copy of the magazine, here or at your local newsstand.

Some of the same tips in the magazine article are included in my How To Style Shelves Like a Pro eBook that is free for Eleanor Rose Home insiders. If you are not an insider and would like a copy, sign up here to join the ERH community!
