Jump to RecipeRice Krispie Treat Ingredients
- 6 cups Red, White, & Blue Rice Krispies Cereal
- 5 1/2 cups Mini Marshmallows
- 3 tbsp Melted Unsalted Butter
- 6 oz White Chocolate Chips
- Patriotic Sprinkles
- 12 Paper Treat Sticks: I used these ones.

Rice Krispie Treat Instructions
In a large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows to melted butter and stir until completely melted. Remove pan from heat.
Add red, white, and blue Rice Krispies cereal to the marshmallow mixture. Stir until well coated.
Using a buttered rubber spatula or a piece of parchment paper, evenly press mixture into a 13″ x 18″ half sheet baking pan coated with non-stick cooking spray.

Allow the mixture to cool and set for about 30 minutes.
Once set, use a 3″ star shaped cookie cutter to cut out the Rice Krispie stars. Place a treat stick up through the bottom of each star, and place the star shapes on a wax paper lined baking sheet.
Melt the white chocolate in a microwave safe bowl in the microwave at 20 second intervals until all of the chocolate is melted.

Pour melted chocolate into a piping bag (or ziplock baggie with a small tip cut out) and drizzle chocolate over the star shaped treats.
Sprinkle star sprinkles on top, and allow chocolate to harden for about 30 minutes before serving.
Arrange the star treats on a platter or standing up in cups and serve!

Star Shaped Rice Krispie Treat Recipe Substitutions
Recipes are meant to be adaptable, and substitutions allow you to customize the recipe according to your personal preferences. Don’t hesitate to get creative and make this fun patriotic treat uniquely yours!
- For a deeper, nuttier flavor in these treats, brown 3 tablespoons of butter before adding the marshmallows.
- Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the melted marshmallow mixture for depth of flavor.
- Add red or blue food coloring to the marshmallow mixture or to the melted chocolate for fun pops of patriotic color.
- This recipe can be used for any season or holiday by simply changing the shape of the cookie cutter, sprinkles, and color of chocolate or cereal. Check out these mummy Rice Krispie treats I make for Halloween!

How long will these patriotic treats last?
Rice Krispie treats can stay fresh and delicious when properly stored for several days.
If you plan to consume the treats within a day or two, you can keep them at room temperature in an airtight container or a sealed plastic bag. This will help maintain their texture and prevent them from becoming stale.
If you live in a warmer climate or want to extend the shelf life, you can store the treats in the refrigerator. Place them in an airtight container or wrap them tightly in plastic wrap to prevent them from drying out. The refrigeration will help keep them fresh for up to one week.

If you want to enjoy the treats beyond a week or need to make them ahead of time, you can freeze them. Wrap each individual treat tightly in plastic wrap or place them in a freezer-safe container. Frozen Krispie treats can stay fresh for up to two months. When ready to enjoy, allow them to thaw at room temperature for about 20-30 minutes before serving.
The texture of the treats may change slightly over time, becoming slightly denser or losing a bit of their crispness. However, they will still be delicious and enjoyable even after a few days.
