How to Make Rustic DIY Farmhouse Christmas Ornaments
sharing is caring!
Get ready to add farmhouse charm to your tree with these rustic DIY farmhouse Christmas ornaments. They’re inexpensive and easy to make with clip on candle holders & small bottle brush trees.

I wanted to go a different route with the decor on our Christmas tree in the living room this year.
Instead of the usual filling up the tree with as many ornaments as possible, I wanted to switch things up and decorate our farmhouse Christmas tree with the least amount of ornaments possible.
Now if I’m being completely honest, I’m not sure if my need of simplicity on the Christmas tree is from truly wanting a rustic minimalist farmhouse tree or from my old age & wisdom.
Yes, wisdom. Because the simple math I’ve learned is this…the more ornaments on the tree equals more time removing ornaments from the tree after Christmas.
Whichever the reason (Deep down I think it’s the latter!) I have to say that our Christmas tree this year, just might be my favorite one of all time.

Which leads me to the reason for this blog post and one of my favorite ornaments on our tree, these rustic DIY bottle brush ornaments!
These charming ornaments are sure to evoke the spirit of a cozy farmhouse Christmas in your home, whether you have a minimalist tree like me or a tree filled to the brim with decorations.
So, let’s get into the Christmas spirit and make the perfect ornament!

What is a rustic farmhouse Christmas style?
Since I’m talking a lot about a rustic farmhouse Christmas style when it comes to our Christmas tree, I thought it might be important to define what that is before we start crafting ornaments.
A rustic farmhouse Christmas is a style of holiday decor that draws inspiration from the cozy, simple, and nostalgic elements associated with traditional farmhouses and rustic settings.
This decor style often emphasizes natural materials, vintage inspired accents, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Here are some key elements that characterize a rustic farmhouse Christmas:
- Natural Look: Incorporating natural materials like wood, burlap, pine cones, and fresh greenery is a hallmark of rustic farmhouse decor.
- Neutral Color Palette: Rustic farmhouse Christmas decor often features a neutral color palette, including whites, creams, browns, and muted tones.
- Vintage Touches: Antique or vintage inspired ornaments and decorations contribute to the nostalgic charm of a rustic farmhouse Christmas.
- DIY Decor: Crafting your own ornament adds a personal and handmade touch to the rustic farmhouse theme.
- Cozy Textiles: Soft and cozy textiles, such as tree skirts and cute ribbon enhance the warmth of the tree.
- Candlelight Lighting: Enhance the cozy atmosphere with the soft glow of candles and warm string lights. Lighting plays a crucial role in creating a warm and cozy ambiance in a rustic farmhouse Christmas setting.
- Farmhouse Inspired Christmas Tree: Choose a Christmas tree that complements the rustic look, like our King of Christmas King Noble Fir Christmas tree.
A rustic farmhouse Christmas is about embracing the beauty of imperfections, celebrating simplicity, and creating a holiday setting that feels warm, inviting, and steeped in the timeless charm of farmhouse living.

Easy Tutorial for Crafting These Rustic Ornaments

Begin by plugging in your hot glue gun and allowing it to heat up so it’s ready when you are ready to begin attaching the trees to the candle holders.
Using pliers, carefully cut off the wooden bottom from each bottle brush tree. This step will allow you to easily attach the bottom of the tree to the candle holder.

Next, gently press down the metal spokes at the center of each candle clip. This creates the space for hot gluing the bottle brush trees securely inside, ensuring a perfect fit.

With your supplies prepped, begin by applying a generous amount of hot glue to the bottom of each bottle brush tree.
Carefully but quickly insert the glued end of the bottle brush tree inside the candle clip.
Press down on the tree for 5-10 seconds to get a firm adherence to the clip.
Repeat these steps for each tree until all are securely attached to the clips.

With the hot glue set, your charming DIY ornaments are ready to be clipped to the Christmas tree!
Clipping the DIY Christmas Ornaments to the Tree
Begin by carefully selecting the ideal branches for each ornament and then gently attach the clip to the branch.
Since these ornaments have the pretty gold clip at the bottom, I like to attach these towards the front of the Christmas tree for a festive touch.

Make sure to distribute the ornaments evenly around the tree to create a balanced and visually appealing look.

Are there other ways to use these DIY farmhouse style Christmas ornaments?
Yes, there is!
These DIY ornaments are versatile and can be used in a couple of ways other than just placed on the Christmas tree.
- Clip the ornaments to a wreath. The bottle brush trees will add a fun, festive touch to an evergreen wreath.
- Incorporate the bottle brush ornaments into garlands that you can drape over mantels, staircases, or along tabletops.
- Use these ornaments as unique and handmade gift toppers. Simply clip them onto ribbon or twine and attach them to presents.

How can I customize this DIY to make my own ornaments unique?
Customizing these farmhouse Christmas ornaments is a great way to infuse your unique style and personality into your decor this holiday season.
Here are some ideas:
- Hot glue miniature ornaments, bows, or tiny trinkets to the bottle brush trees.
- Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge or glue to the bottle brush trees and dust with glitter for a touch of holiday sparkle. Opt for gold or silver glitter to complement the farmhouse aesthetic.
- Add a little whimsy by attaching small ribbons or twine bows to the top or bottom of each ornament.
- Infuse your ornaments with a custom scent by adding a drop or two of essential oils to the bottle brush trees. Scents like cinnamon, pine, or citrus can evoke a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

Remember, the beauty of DIY is the freedom to let your creativity shine!
Feel free to mix and match these ideas or come up with your own unique twists to make these farmhouse Christmas ornaments truly your own.
